Keyword Density: There Is No Right Number, and What to Use Instead
The "1-2%" target repeated across the web has no source. Two things about a keyword are checkable - whether it is present and where it first appears - and they are what to measure.

Where the keyword density number came from
What is checkable instead
- A phrase appearing fourteen times starting at word 300 is, on all of those surfaces, a
| Surface | Shown before the fold | What the fold decides |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube description | ~150 characters | Whether a human reads it at all |
| Instagram caption | ~125 characters | Whether the caption is opened |
| TikTok caption | ~90 characters | Whether the caption is opened |
| Pinterest feed | A short opening line | Whether the Pin is clicked |
| A search snippet | ~160 characters | What the result says in the list |
The column nobody asks for
When repetition does become a problem
What to do with a description instead
- Name the subject in the first sentence, the way somebody would search for it.
- Put it above the fold for the surface it is going to — 150 characters on YouTube,
- Say it once more naturally, wherever it falls.
- Stop. Placements four through fourteen do nothing that placement one did not.

Meta Description Length: What Google Actually Shows
Google gives a desktop snippet two lines and a phone three. The useful target is one clear promise inside about 155 characters — and Google may still use a passage instead.

Title Tag Length: How Long Should a Title Be in Pixels?
A title tag is cut by width, not by character count. The desktop column is about 600 pixels — which is anywhere from 45 to 75 characters depending on the letters.

How Google Builds a Search Snippet
A search snippet is assembled, not published. Google picks the title, often rewrites it, chooses the description from the page, and cuts both to fit a fixed column.
