Overview
About this tool
Checks a channel against every YouTube Partner Program requirement — the fan funding tier at 500 subscribers and the ad revenue tier at 1,000 — and shows exactly what is missing, including the account requirements that disqualify a channel outright.
Instructions
How to use it
Enter your subscriber count, then whichever of watch hours or Shorts views you have. Both come from YouTube Studio → Analytics; the watch hours figure needs the date range set to the last 365 days, and Shorts views to the last 90.
The two thresholds people confuse
- Fan funding — 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in 90 days, and either 3,000 watch hours or 3 million Shorts views. Unlocks memberships, Super Thanks and Shopping.
- Ad revenue — 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 watch hours or 10 million Shorts views. Unlocks ads and the Premium revenue share.
Watch hours and Shorts views are alternatives, not a sum
This is the arithmetic almost everybody gets wrong. 2,000 watch hours and 1.5 million Shorts views is not "halfway to both" — it is halfway on each route separately, and neither one qualifies. Pick the route you are closer to and commit to it; the tool says which that is.
Questions
Frequently asked
Do Shorts views count towards the 4,000 watch hours?
No. Shorts are the separate route, with their own threshold. Watch hours come only from public long-form videos, and they exclude live premieres before they end, unlisted videos and anything you later deleted.
I hit the numbers. How long does approval take?
Usually under a month, though it varies. It is a manual review of the whole channel against the monetization policies, not an automatic switch — meeting the thresholds makes you eligible to apply, not monetized.
Can I tell whether somebody else’s channel is monetized?
Only partly, and not with this tool — this one measures your own channel against the rules using figures only you can see. The YouTube Channel Monetization Checker reads any channel’s public page instead, and reports the monetization features that are visibly switched on.
