How Many Hashtags Should You Use on Each Platform?
The cap and the useful number are different things, and the gap is large. Instagram allows thirty and recommends three to five. Here is every platform's cap and its sensible count.

How many hashtags each platform takes
| Platform | Cap | Sensible count | Past the cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 | 3–5 | The excess is ignored | |
| TikTok | No cap | 3–5 | They spend the 2,200-character caption |
| YouTube | 60 | 3–5 | Every hashtag on the video is ignored |
| X | No cap | 1–2 | They spend the 280 characters |
| No cap | 3–5 | They spend the 3,000 characters | |
| No cap | 1–2 | Hashtags do very little there | |
| Threads | 1 linked | 1 | The rest stay as plain words |
| 20 | 2–5 | The excess is ignored | |
| Bluesky | No cap | 1–3 | They spend the 300 graphemes |

Hashtag Mistakes That Cost You the Whole Set
Most hashtag mistakes cost you one tag. Three of them cost you every tag on the post, and none of the three announce themselves.

How Google Builds a Search Snippet
A search snippet is assembled, not published. Google picks the title, often rewrites it, chooses the description from the page, and cuts both to fit a fixed column.
