Overview
About this tool
Takes the hashtag block you keep in a note and checks it against the rules the platform enforces: the cap, duplicates in different casing, tags that are not valid hashtags at all, and how much of your caption budget the block eats. Hands back the cleaned set, in order.
Instructions
How to use it
Paste the block however you keep it — one per line, comma separated, or all on one line, with or without the #. Pick the platform and the cap that applies is checked for you.
The failure that costs the most
YouTube ignores every hashtag on a video carrying more than sixty — not the excess, all of them — and its documentation warns separately that over-tagging may remove a video from search. Instagram simply stops reading after thirty. Neither tells you. A set one tag too long does not work slightly less well; it can stop working entirely.
Duplicates you cannot see
Hashtags are case-insensitive everywhere, so #SourDough and #sourdough are one tag. In a saved block they look like two different lines, which is exactly why the mistake survives for years.
Questions
Frequently asked
How many hashtags should I use on Instagram?
Instagram accepts 30 and its own creator guidance recommends three to five. A long block does not usually reach more people; it mostly signals that the post was not written for anyone in particular.
Does capitalisation change which feed a tag reaches?
No. Hashtags are case-insensitive on every platform, so casing is purely about readability — and about screen readers, which need CamelCase to read a multi-word tag as words.
Why is my hashtag invalid?
Almost always a character no platform allows in a tag: punctuation, an emoji, an apostrophe or a space. The tag is silently cut at that character, so #don’t becomes #don.
What happens over YouTube’s 15-hashtag limit?
YouTube ignores all of them. This is the single most expensive hashtag mistake there is, because the set looks fine and does nothing.
