How to use it
Paste either a channel link or a video link — the tool works out which you gave it. Channel handles like @mkbhd work, and so do old /c/ and /user/ URLs.
Video links give you more than the thumbnail
Alongside the chosen thumbnail, YouTube keeps the three frames it generated automatically from the quarter, half and three-quarter marks of the video. They survive even after a custom thumbnail replaces them, which makes them useful for grabbing a clean still without downloading the video.
Channel links give you the assets nobody exposes
Avatars are served at any square size on request, and banners at the four widths YouTube crops to for mobile, tablet, desktop and TV. Both come straight from Google’s image CDN at full quality.

How is this different from the thumbnail downloader?
The thumbnail downloader gives you one image — the chosen thumbnail — in five resolutions. This gives you the images around it: the auto-generated frames on a video, and the avatar and banner on a channel.
The banner is missing.
Some channels have not set one. The result says so rather than showing a broken link.
What size should my own banner be?
Upload at 2560 × 1440. YouTube crops it down for every device, and the 1546 × 423 centre strip is the only part guaranteed to be visible everywhere.
