About this tool
Instagram uses a single 9:16 cover in two places and crops the middle out of it for the profile grid. This exports both crops from your image so you can see what the grid tile keeps before the cover is locked in.

How to use it
Paste a link to your cover frame and choose which band of it the square grid tile should keep. You get the full 9:16 cover, the 4:5 grid tile and a 1:1 crop.
The grid is where people browse
A cover designed for the full 9:16 frame loses its top and bottom on the profile — which is exactly where most people put the text. Keep every word inside the middle 1080 × 1350 of the frame and both crops survive.

Can I change a Reel cover after posting?
You can edit the cover, but the grid crop is recalculated from it — so the cover still has to be designed for both places.
