Overview
About this tool
Converts between the four formats the web runs on and tells you when the conversion is about to cost you something — most often the transparent background a logo loses the moment it becomes a JPEG.
Instructions
How to use it
Paste an image URL, choose the format you want, and download the result. Quality applies to JPEG and WebP; PNG and GIF are lossless and ignore it.
Which format when
- WebP — the default for the web. Smallest files, keeps transparency.
- PNG — logos, screenshots, anything with hard edges or transparency.
- JPEG — photographs, and anywhere that still refuses WebP.
- GIF — flat graphics only. 256 colours means photographs band visibly.
Questions
Frequently asked
Why is AVIF not offered?
The image library on our servers is not built with AVIF support. WebP is close enough in size and works in more places.
Does converting a GIF keep the animation?
No — only the first frame is converted. Animation needs a video tool.
