Overview
About this tool
Reads a video’s title, channel and publication date, then formats them five ways — because every style treats the uploader differently, and that is the part people get wrong.
Instructions
How to use it
Paste the video link. Title, channel and publication date are read from the video itself, so there is nothing to retype and nothing to mistype.
The uploader is the hard part
APA wants the person with the channel in square brackets — Brownlee, M. [Marques Brownlee]. MLA wants “uploaded by” after the title. Chicago leads with the channel as the author outright. If you know the real name behind the channel, add it in the optional field; if no person is credited, leave it blank and the channel is cited as the author, which is correct.
Questions
Frequently asked
How do I cite a specific moment in a video?
Cite the video as normal and put the timestamp in the in-text citation — APA uses (Channel, 2009, 1:23). Our timestamp link builder will give you a link that jumps straight there.
The date says n.d.
No publication date was published for that video, which happens on some older and some unlisted uploads. “n.d.” is the correct fallback in every style here; add the date by hand if you can find it on the watch page.
