Overview
About this tool
Reads Apple’s own public directory record for any show or episode and returns the artwork at every size Apple serves, up to the 3000×3000 original the publisher uploaded.
Instructions
How to use it
Paste a podcasts.apple.com link — to a show or to a single episode — or just the numeric ID from one. The artwork comes back at five sizes, largest last.
Where the 3000 comes from
Apple’s directory record hands out a URL ending in 600x600bb.jpg. The size is part of the path rather than a signature, so the same file is served at any size by substitution — and Apple’s own submission rules require artwork of 3000 × 3000, which means that rendition exists for every show in the directory. Ask for more than 3000 and Apple hands back the 3000 anyway; there is nothing larger behind it.
Episode art is not show art
A link copied from an episode carries an ?i= id, and an episode that ships its own cover has different artwork from the show it belongs to. Paste the episode link and you get the episode’s picture; paste the show link and you get the show’s.
Questions
Frequently asked
Does this need an Apple account or an API key?
No. Apple’s Search API is public and unauthenticated; the tool asks it the same question the Podcasts app asks.
Is 3000 × 3000 really the original?
It is the largest Apple serves, and it is the size Apple requires publishers to submit. Requesting 4000 returns the 3000 — there is no bigger file to find.
Why is the show not found?
Shows are removed from the directory when their feed goes dead, while the old link keeps working. If the lookup finds nothing, the show is no longer listed.
Can I get the podcast’s RSS feed too?
The feed URL comes back in the run’s metadata, because Apple’s record carries it. It is the fastest way to find a show’s real feed from an Apple link.
