About this tool
Reads a batch of posts at once and ranks recurring phrases by how many posts contain them rather than by how often they occur — because eight uses in one post is a subject and one use in eight posts is a habit, and only the second is a crutch. Openings are pulled out separately, since they are the repeats every reader reaches.
Instructions
How to use it
Paste several posts separated by a line containing only three dashes. Ten is where this starts telling you something you did not already know.
Why the ranking is on posts, not occurrences
A phrase appearing eight times in one post is what that post is about. A phrase appearing once each in eight posts is a tic — nothing in any individual post is wrong, and the channel has a habit. Sorting by raw frequency buries the second case under the first, which is why this sorts by how many posts contain the phrase.
Openings get their own table
The first three words of a post are the only words every reader reaches, so a repeat there costs more than a repeat anywhere else.
Questions
Frequently asked
How many posts should I paste in?
Around ten. Below eight there is not enough of a run for a habit to distinguish itself from a coincidence, and the tool says so.
Is repeating a phrase bad?
Not automatically. A catchphrase, a sign-off and a series format are all repetition doing a job. The report tells you what you repeat; whether you meant to is yours.
Why does it ignore hashtags?
Because a tag set repeated across every post is a tag set, and leaving them in would drown every real finding. Checking those is what the hashtag validator is for.
Why is a phrase I use constantly missing?
Probably because it sits inside a longer phrase that is also listed. A shorter phrase that only ever occurs inside a longer one is reported once, as the longer one.
